Remembrance Day for the Murdered Children of Sarajevo - May 5th was permanently declared the Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton (KS) by last year's decision of the Government of Sarajevo Canton. On this occasion, the KS Government organized today the laying of flowers and paying tribute in the square near the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo, in coordination with the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo.
Fikret Grabovica, President of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo, addressed the audience, by saying: Love this city and this country, stay here and make your dreams come true.
"This memorial is a symbol of the suffering of children, it confirms, warns and obliges, that in 1992 an act of aggression was carried out against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that this city was under siege, in a hell, for 1,425 days when criminals from the surrounding hills brutally killed the citizens of Sarajevo, 11,541 of our fellow citizens were killed, of which 1,601 were children," Grabovica recalled at the beginning of his speech.

He told the young generation that it is important to know the truth. At the end of his address, he had a message for the children.
"Love this city and the country, because love is very important for a better life, both in this city and this country. If you love them, you will preserve them in the right way. Stay here and I wish your dreams come true," he concluded, calling for a minute's silence for those whose dreams were cut short during the war.
