A former high official of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity Police Administration Edin Vranj was ordered 30-day custody by the Pre-Trial Judge of the High Court in Belgrade - War Crimes Chamber, Tuesday, due to fear that he might flee from Serbia.

“The suspect and his defence counsel have the right to appeal against the said decision within three days from the receipt of the decision to the criminal out-of-trial panel of the High Court in Belgrade,” the Court said. “The suspect Edin Vranj is charged with committing the criminal offence of “war crime against captivity in complicity under Article 144 of the former Republic of Yugoslavia’s Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 22 of the FRY CC.”#related-news_1

Vranj was arrested Sunday morning, as he crossed the Serbian border.

At the time of his arrest, he managed to send a text message to a journalist from the Istraga.ba portal before his mobile phone was taken away.

Journalists also managed to get a short statement from him.

“I am currently at the police station in Priboj. I went privately to Serbia, to Sandzak, when I came to the border crossing Uvac – I was arrested. I expect my phone to be taken away at any moment. Try to alert the BiH embassy,” Vranj told the journalists.

The arrest was condemned by Bosnia’s Bosniak and Croat Presidency members Sefik Dzaferovic and Zeljko Komsic who said it was yet another proof that Serbia is revising the truth about the war in Bosnia and equalizing the warring parties when it comes to crimes committed.

BiH Foreign Minister also called the ambassador Aida Smajic from Belgrade back to BiH for “consultations in Sarajevo” regarding the case, which is a sure sign of deteriorating diplomatic relations between the two countries.
