Forest fires remain active in Konjic and Neum amid high temperatures and drought

High temperatures and prolonged lack of rainfall continue to contribute to the outbreak and spread of wildfires in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), with the most difficult situation this morning in the areas of Konjic and Neum.

A forest fire remains active on inaccessible terrain above the Kanjina settlement in the Konjic area. According to the HNC Civil Protection Headquarters, the situation at the fire site this morning is serious.
The fire flared up again yesterday and spread above Gornja Kanjina and toward the right branch above Zivasnica.
Two Air Tractors operated at the fire site yesterday, making two flights each.
During the night, between 23:55 and 1:45, two separate fires were also reported along the railway line in the areas of Vrbica and Ovcara.
The situation is also serious in the Neum municipality, where a forest fire remains active on Mount Vrando above the villages of Glumina, Lastva and Medjugorje. The fire came dangerously close to the Medjugorje hamlet, reaching within 250 meters of houses. Two Air Tractors also participated in firefighting efforts.
Firefighting units were also busy in other cities and municipalities across HNC.
In the Buna settlement near Mostar, grass and low vegetation burned from 16:00 to 22:00, while Air Tractor aircraft each made one flight over the fire site during the firefighting operation.
From 13:22 to 18:10, a forest and low-vegetation fire burned in Grahovo-Dretelj in the City of Capljina area. Two Air Tractors were deployed and made three flights. A team of firefighters remains on standby at the fire site, according to Civil Protection.
