Heavy traffic at BiH's border crossings as summer travel peaks

According to the Bosnian Automobile and Motorcycle Club (BIHAMK), the longest queues are currently at the Velika Kladusa, Gradina and Orasje border crossings on the country's exit routes. Waiting times at other crossings are, for now, under 30 minutes.

BIHAMK expects heavy traffic throughout the day, particularly on roads leading to tourist destinations, major cities and international border crossings.

Drivers have been advised to set out well-rested, allow extra travel time and check road conditions before departing.

"Patience, an adjusted speed and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles remain the most important prerequisites for safe driving during the busy summer traffic season," BIHAMK said.

Several roadworks are also affecting traffic across the country.

The Golubinja-Nemila section has been closed due to the construction of the Nemila-Vranduk motorway subsection, with traffic diverted onto the M-17 main road.

Repair works have also closed a six-kilometre section of the A-1 motorway between Lasva and Kakanj, where traffic is operating in both directions on the opposite carriageway. On the Sarajevo West-Lepenica section of the A-1 motorway, vehicles are being diverted into the overtaking lane because of ongoing works.

Restrictions remain in place on several main roads. On the Dobro Polje-Miljevina, Tuzla-Bijeljina and Jablanica-Blidinje routes, only vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes are permitted, while heavier vehicles remain prohibited.

Additional delays are possible on the Podromanija-Sumbulovac road over the Romanija mountain pass, where construction of an additional climbing lane is causing intermittent traffic stoppages.

Traffic is also moving more slowly through the Vratnik tunnel on the Sarajevo-Lapisnica road due to lighting installation works, while alternating one-way traffic is in effect on the Crna Rijeka–Jajce and Konjic-Jablanica roads because of maintenance works.

BIHAMK also warned that the gradual implementation of the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) could lead to additional waiting times at border crossings.
