How Sipovic sisters wrote a unique story of the Bosnian sports

Three competitors representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Sipovic sisters, won three medals at the European Championship in Georgia last week. Emina, Ajla and Nejra were among the best athletes in their categories at the same competition, making a great contribution to the success of the Bosnian sports abroad.

The case of the Sipovic sisters at the competition in Georgia is of a historical significance for Bosnia and Herzegovina but also a unique case where three sisters from the same home win medals at one of the largest competitions in Europe.

Emina won the gold medal in the U21 Kumite Female category up to 61 kg through a series of impressive victories over the representatives of Scotland (6:1), Serbia (7:5), Slovakia (11:5), Ukraine (12:12) (advantage of the first point), and in the final she triumphed over opponent Hana Debeljak from Slovenia with a score of 4:1.

Ajla won a silver medal in the Junior Kumite category up to 66 kg and became European vice-champion. She defeated the representatives of Poland, England, Serbia, Slovakia, and in the final round she was defeated by the representative of France (1:2).

On her way to the bronze medal in the U21 Kumite Female category up to 55 kg, Nejra defeated her opponent from Serbia after the free first round. In the quarterfinals she was defeated by the Slovakian representative (3:4), but then won against representatives of Greece (4:0) and Belgium (9:1).

The Sipovic sisters have achieved historic success for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with their excellent results, they have long been at the very top of European and world karate.

During the European Karate Championship in Tbilisi from February 9 to 11, Karate team of Bosnia and Herzegovina won four gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

In the competition of 49 countries, Bosnian national team won 3rd place in the overall ranking.
