The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, met today with representatives of the Organizing Committee for the July 11 commemoration and associations of victims' families to discuss the upcoming commemoration in light of the United Nations resolution designating this day as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica.

“The UN resolution on Srebrenica is not a political tool but an expression of the international commitment to preserving the dignity of survivors and the memory of those killed. It should be seen as a driving factor in healing and reconciliation. Denial of crimes is unacceptable,” said Schmidt.

The International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica, July 11, is marked on the official calendar on the UN website.

This follows the adoption of the resolution in the UN General Assembly on May 23. The resolution was supported by 84 countries, opposed by 19, with 68 abstentions.
