BiH Presidency Chair Zeljko Komsic addressed the audience at the reception on the occasion of the upcoming Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he and BiH Presidency member Denis Becirovic organized Wednesday evening in the Sarajevo City Hall.
“Thirty-two years ago, after a series of political, diplomatic and organizational preparations, a referendum was held on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, then a Republic within the Socialist Yugoslav Federation. The result of the referendum was clear: Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes an independent and sovereign republic,” Komsic said at the beginning of his address,
He recalled that during the defensive war, Bosnia and Herzegovina preserved its internationally recognized borders with enormous sacrifices and confirmed, albeit with a changed constitutional structure, its constitutional continuity.
“The Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the only legal armed forces in the country, managed, through armed struggle, to force the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Croatia to sign an international agreement, according to which the two neighbouring countries undertook to no longer threaten the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state, which, in the end, they recognized,” he recalled.
The Chairman then stressed that the leaders of separatist policies in Bosnia and Herzegovina – who like to present themselves as leaders of the people and legitimate representatives – do nothing but steal the will of their own people and deliver it to Belgrade and Zagreb for decision.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is getting stronger, albeit slowly – but it's getting stronger, he pointed out!
“Her enemies had no hope that she would even survive, let alone grow stronger. They were convinced that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnians would disappear,” Komsic stated.
He told the audience to be proud of March 1st because they have every right to be proud of their homeland and the generation that defended it.
“And let us remain firm in our faith in the final victory. Long live our, free, homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Komsic concluded.
