Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency member Zeljko Komsic has summoned Hungarian Ambassador Krisztian Posa for talks following statements made by Hungarian officials in Banja Luka, his office confirmed to Anadolu Agency.

Komsic’s request came after Hungary’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Levente Magyar, met with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik in Banja Luka on Monday morning and expressed open support for him.

Following the meeting, Magyar stated that he had come to back Dodik, who, according to him, was facing a "political witch hunt." He emphasized Budapest's desire to engage in dialogue and seek solutions, distinguishing Hungary’s approach from that of Western countries that, as he put it, "interfere from thousands of kilometers away."

“Whatever happens to you concerns us as well. The time when Hungary was merely an observer of events in the Balkans is over. We have chosen a policy of understanding and stand against the West’s intentions,” Magyar declared.

His visit to Banja Luka follows strong reactions in Republika Srpska to a court ruling sentencing Dodik to one year in prison and banning him from holding office for six years due to his refusal to comply with decisions made by the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In response, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS) recently passed several laws, including measures prohibiting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s judicial and security institutions from operating within the entity’s territory.
