Marking the first major utility-scale solar initiative in the state power company's investment portfolio, the facility will boast an installed capacity of 50 MWp. It will be constructed on the site of the former external disposal area of the Gracanica Coal Mine located within the municipality of Bugojno.
Director General Sanel Buljubasic noted that the project represents a critical milestone in advancing the company's long-term energy transition strategy, expanding the presence of renewable energy within the generation portfolio, lowering carbon emissions, and meeting European energy standards. He emphasized that repurposing reclaimed mining land successfully integrates sustainable development with responsible land management for clean energy production.
Executive Director Harun Gadzo added that the initiative will bolster domestic energy security, decrease reliance on fossil fuels, modernize generation assets, and enhance the overall resilience and long-term stability of the power system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The finalized contract encompasses comprehensive project execution, covering design, equipment procurement and delivery, civil construction, testing, system commissioning, and maintenance throughout the designated period. Financial backing for the development has been arranged in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and UniCredit Bank Mostar.
