N1’s Minela Jasar Opardija took over the prestigious ‘Srdjan Aleksic’ Journalism Award for professional reporting which she won in December 2020 at a ceremony organised in Sarajevo on Friday evening.
Jasar Opardija, who was nominated by the ‘CURE Foundation’, a feminist NGO which promotes gender equality, won the award by a unanimous decision of the four-membered jury, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka said.
According to the judges, Jasar Opardija approached topics she covered in an “extraordinary” way and “made an effort to listen to all sides and present the story in a very qualitative way.”
Emina Dizdarevic, from the Balkan Research Network (BIRN), also won the award for a different category, after she submitted her work to the organisation. The judges said she covered her topics “in a special, analytic and creative way.”
The Journalist Award is given for professional and continuous reporting on marginalized and vulnerable groups in Bosnia’s society and for “improving socially responsible journalism.”
The 2020 award ceremony was organized by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka and Network for Building Peace with the support of Civil Right Defenders.
