Over 300 cyclists set off from Bihac for Srebrenica on 22nd memorial marathon

Over 300 cyclists set off from Bihac on Wednesday morning for Srebrenica as part of the 22nd Bihac–Srebrenica Cycling Marathon, held under the motto "May it never happen again, may it never be forgotten". The traditional event pays tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide whilst conveying a message of peace and remembrance.

The marathon is ridden in three stages over a route of approximately 500 kilometres, with participants expected to arrive in Potocari on the eve of the anniversary of the genocide committed against Bosniaks in July 1995.
Amongst those taking part is Mustafa Ruznic, Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton, who said the marathon serves as a lasting reminder of the crime committed in Srebrenica.
"We are sending a message of peace, but also a message that we will never forget what happened in Srebrenica. We want to ensure that such a crime never happens to anyone again," Ruznic said.
Elvedin Sedic, Mayor of Bihac, said that cycling to Potocari is a unique experience that, beyond its physical challenge, carries a powerful emotional message.
"During the three-day ride, we share the collective memory of the genocide victims, friendships are formed, and there are many conversations about the importance of preserving the truth and the culture of remembrance. The final kilometres to Potocari are especially emotional. I recommend that everyone who has not yet done so take part in this marathon or the Peace March at least once, because the significance of the journey can only be fully understood by experiencing it personally," Sedic said.
For more than two decades, the Bihac–Srebrenica Cycling Marathon has brought together participants from Bosnia and abroad, who honour the victims of the genocide through their shared journey whilst sending the message that crimes such as the Srebrenica genocide must never be repeated.
