Palestinian community in Bosnia marks World Refugee Day with call for action

The organization highlights that Palestinian refugees constitute the longest-standing refugee case in modern history, marking 78 years of displacement, systematic destruction of infrastructure, and persistent challenges to their internationally guaranteed right to return.

In an official statement, the community voiced its solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, as well as those displaced globally. They praised the resilience shown by the population in the face of conflict, starvation, and forced displacement.

Furthermore, the organization issued a sharp condemnation of attempts to undermine the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), describing the agency as a vital international witness to the Palestinian refugee crisis. They urged the international community to secure both the political and financial stability of UNRWA, ensuring its essential health, educational, and humanitarian services continue for millions.

The Palestinian Community in BiH called upon Bosnian institutions, civil society, and the media to continue upholding international law and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and self-determination. The group appealed to the United Nations to act urgently to end the occupation, ensure protection for civilians, and prosecute those responsible for crimes.

The statement concluded that lasting peace in the Middle East is only achievable through the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent, sovereign State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
