PIC Steering Board meets in Potocari ahead of Srebrenica genocide anniversary

Ambassadors of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board (PIC SB) convened on Tuesday in Potocari ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Members of the Board of Principals also attended the session, which was held at the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center to support efforts in commemorating the genocide and honouring its victims.
During the meeting, participants were briefed on commemoration plans by the leadership of the Memorial Center and victims’ associations. They praised their ongoing dedication to truth and justice, recognizing their work as essential to fostering trust, lasting peace, and stability.
"Meeting here in Potocari, a place of remembrance, reaffirms the international community’s commitment to upholding the General Framework Agreement for Peace and the achievements made over three decades of its implementation," said Christian Schmidt, High Representative and Chairman of the PIC SB.
The Memorial Center serves as a crucial institution dedicated to preserving the memory of Srebrenica while promoting education, recognition, and reconciliation to prevent future ethnically motivated violence. "This Memorial has the capacity to facilitate honest dialogue among all people and foster peaceful coexistence. It is about remembering and learning the right lessons. Never again should anyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina become a victim of hostility, incitement, or violence based on their origin, religion, or nationality," Schmidt emphasized.
The meeting also underscored the unwavering support of the international community for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional and legal framework, reaffirming its commitment to the country’s continued path toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
