Denis Becirovic, the Bosniak member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's tripartite Presidency told the international peace envoy, High Representative Christian Schmidt, that the key institutions that guarantee the peace and stability – the Constitutional Court of BiH and the High Representative, have been under attack, and that it is necessary to protect the constitutional order of BiH.

Becirovic met the international official in what was previously announced as an “urgent meeting” and his cabinet issued a press release following the meeting saying that it comes in light of “serious attacks on the constitutional order and recent US sanctions introduced against political officials in Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity.”

“During the talk Denis Becirovic among other things emphasised that there is no more important topic at this moment than the protection of the constitutional order of BiH, because it is a fundamental prerequisite for intensifying of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Politicians who underestiamte or relativise the attacks on constitutional order work directly in favour of (RS President) Milorad Dodik's policy,” said the press release, noting also that the recent sactions against the officials representing the Serb-majority Bosnia's region are “justified.”

The Presidency member also said on this occasion that the key institutions that guarantee the peace and stability – the High Representative and the Consituttional Court of BiH are under attack, and that they must not be a subject of trade “with the actors of the attack on the consittutional order.”

He urged the internaitonal community to take swift measures and put an end to the “separatist actions, as well as the dangerous attacks on the fundaments of the Dayton Peace Agreement.”

According to Becirovic's cabinet, Scmidt said that the Office of the High Representative is closely following the situation in the country and “keeping all the options open.”

“All instruments for the protection of the Dayton Peace Agreement are on table,” said Schmidt according to the same press release.

The OHR also briefly reported on the meeting, saying that the meeting was held at Becirovic's request to “exchange views on the current political developments in BiH and attempts to undermine the constitutional and legal order.”

“Political stakeholders must uphold the Dayton Peace Agreement and BiH's constitutional framework, and focus their efforts on implementing the 14 priorities and other essential reforms needed to move this country faster towards full EU membership,” the OHR's press release quoted Schmidt.

The meeting comes days after the US introduced sanctions on the Bosnian Serb politicians in BiH for obstructing and threatening the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
