The latest US sanctions are an important message to everyone in the region that the developed Western democracies support the preserving of the peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosniak member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency said after the latest set of sanctions that US authorities imposed on four Bosnian Serb officials, including Becirovic's colleague – Serb Presidency member Zeljka Cvijanovic.

Becirovic emphasised the necessity of sanctioning the politicians who jeopardise the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He also warned that “anti-constitutional actions” of the leadership of Bosnia's Serb-majority entity Republika Srpska jeopardise the peace and may have immense consequences, especially in the context of the current geopolitical developments.

“This is why it is of great importance that the European Union states follow the principled policy of the US, as well as the UK,” said Becirovic, noting that the “justified” US sanctions for Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik from 2017 and 2022 as well as the UK sanctions from 2022 and latest US sanctions for other officials “clearly mark the key individuals who undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement.”

According to him, this is the crucial moment for the EU to approve the stances of the European Parliament, which called for the sanctions “against Dodik's regime” on several occasions.

“The region is at the turning point and must choose between Dodik's war policy and the preserving of peace,” Becirovic said, calling for the unity of the international community, the witnesses of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Office of the High Representatives.

The peace, security and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be protected with all available legal and other tools, in accordance with national and international law, Becirovic underlined.

The US authorities have introduced sanctions on one state-level official of Bosnia and Herzegovina and three government officials from the Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb-majority entity, as directly responsible for “encouraging the passage of a Republika Srpska National Assembly law that purports to declare the decisions of the BiH Constitutional Court inapplicable in the RS, thus obstructing and threatening the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.”

The sanctions were introduced by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Monday, pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14033, against RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, RS National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandic, Justice Minister Milos Bukejlovic and Serb member of BiH tripartite Presidency Zeljka Cvijanovic.
