The continued genocide denial by Serbian politicians extends the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and insults the memories of those who were murdered in Srebrenica in July 1995, their surviving family members and the citizens of Bosnia, said Tanya Domi, international and public affairs professor at the Columbia University and former staff member of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Speaking to N1, Domi commented on the reports of the pro-regime media outlets in Serbia, particularly Informer TV, which devoted its July 11 content to the denial of genocide, as well as the statements of Aleksandar Seselj, deputy leader of the Serbian Radical Party whom she called “a liar.”
“Mr. Alexanadar Seselj is a liar about the facts of these crimes that took place in Srebrenica under the leadership of Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic. An international court of law has ruled that Srebrenica was a genocide convicting Mladic and General Radislav Krstic. The herculean efforts to coverup these crimes is made obvious in moving bodies and body parts to more than 80 mass graves and the government of Serbia cooperated with the International Commission on Missing Persons to recover many remains, including within Serbian territory. Seselj's comments are a distraction, but could not be further from the truth. As long as Serbian politicians continue to lie, it compels all Serbian citizens to bear this terrible burden. It's time to end the lying by owning the truth,” she stressed.
The remains of another 30 victims have been buried on Tuesday at the Potocari Memorial Centre, with the youngest victim aged 15 at the time of the death and other two juvenile victims aged 16 and 17.
Over 8,000 persons were killed in the genocide, mainly men and boys. To date, the remains of 6,652 have been buried at the Potocari memorial. The remains of 237 have been buried elsewhere according to their families’ wishes.
For the Srebrenica genocide, the Hague war crimes tribunal sentenced to life former Bosnian Serb political and military leaders Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
