As part of an international investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 15 kilograms of heroin and a kilogram of amphetamine were seized at locations in Dalmatia and Istria in the Republic of Croatia, worth an estimated half a million Bosnian Marks (250,000 euros).
A large amount of money was also seized, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
“The activities were carried out as part of an international operation led by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH with partner institutions from Croatia and Germany, against persons suspected of international smuggling of large quantities of heavy narcotics (heroin), money laundering and investing in cottages and real estate in BiH and the region,” the statement said.
It was clarified that the activities carried out are a continuation of work on the subject of international cooperation against the suspected citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A BiH citizen has been under investigation for a long period of time, and he is suspected of smuggling large quantities of heroin from BiH to Croatia and further to the European Union countries on several occasions.
The operation is a continuation of an investigation into a BiH national who has been suspected of smuggling large amounts of heroin from BiH to Croatia and then further into EU countries for a while.
“He was deprived of liberty on October 13 in the territory of the Republic of Croatia, where the commission of a criminal offence was documented, and a person closely connected with the suspect was searched in the territory of BiH,” the Prosecutor's Office said.
Meanwhile, searches are being conducted and cash flows are being recorded as part of the case as it is believed that the suspect used the money from the illegal activities to purchase real estate in BiH and neighbouring countries.
