The Srebrenica Assembly sent a letter to the UN General Assembly regarding the announced vote on the Resolution on Srebrenica.
“Although the Serb people suffered the most in Europe, especially during the 20th century, which brought freedom to many other nations in the Balkans, their sacrifice is a frequent reason for their total satanization”, the letter said, adding that “ideas of liberty” were the reason for “discrimination” by those forces that sought “hegemony”.
“Serb losses in the Balkan Wars amounted to over 100,000 citizens, losses in the First World War exceed the number of 1,300,000 inhabitants, which is one third of the total population, and 60 percent of the male population. During the Second World War, genocide was committed against the Serb population. In the NDH Jasenovac camp alone, around 700,000 civilians were killed in the most brutal way, and around 500,000 Serbs were killed in the rest of Yugoslavia. That's a total of about 1,300,000 inhabitants”, it said.
According to the letter, about 30,000 Serbs died in the war from 1992 to 1995, and about 3,500 Serbs died in Srebrenica and its surroundings.
“If the losses in Croatia during the NATO aggression are added to these figures, we get the data that the Serbs in the 20th century suffered terrifying losses that no nation in Europe suffered”, it said.
“We, who live in Srebrenica, know best what happened in the tragic war in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, it said.
The letter also said that the UN cannot “erase history” and stressed that the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica “can only worsen” tensions among ethnic groups.
