Kristo emphasized that the agreement serves as more than an administrative formality, representing a substantial advancement for regional economic competitiveness. The new framework expands the number of border crossings equipped for inspection of goods subject to sanitary and phytosanitary controls from the previous two to five. Key crossings, including Svilaj, Izacic, and Kamensko, have received higher categorization, which is expected to streamline logistical processes significantly.

Prime Minister Plenkovic described the agreement as a major step forward, noting that it fundamentally changes the transit regime. This development is expected to catalyze further growth in trade and economic cooperation. Last year, the bilateral trade volume reached approximately 4 billion Euros, supported by strong investment ties and significant tourism exchange, with roughly 650,000 visitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina traveling to Croatia.

During the discussions, the officials also addressed broader political and strategic goals. Kristo reaffirmed Bosnia’s the commitment to the European path, noting that necessary internal reforms, including legislative adjustments, remain a priority for the country. Plenkovic encouraged the utilization of the current momentum for European integration and reiterated support for the equality of the Croat constituent people.

The dialogue further covered the Southern Gas Interconnection project. Both leaders highlighted its importance for regional energy security. Plenkovic underscored the project’s geostrategic value, noting that it serves to reduce dependency on Russian gas supplies, with Croatia ready to assist in ensuring the project’s successful implementation to bolster both energy stability and economic development within Bosnia.
