Turkish national arrested for smuggling foreign nationals

The smuggling attempt was prevented during border surveillance in the border area near Posusje, where officers stopped an Audi passenger vehicle bearing Austrian registration plates and driven by a Turkish national, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police said in a statement.

As there were grounds for suspicion that the criminal offense of people smuggling had been committed, the duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina was notified. On the prosecutor’s orders, the suspected driver was arrested, and the vehicle, a phone, money and other items of evidentiary value were temporarily seized.

The Turkish national will be handed over to the prosecutor in charge at the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with a report on the suspected criminal offense of people smuggling. The Bosnia and Herzegovina Service for Foreigners’ Affairs was also notified of the incident, the statement said.
