Folarin Balogun gave the hosts the lead just before halftime, punishing a lapse in the Bosnian defence and sending the United States into the break with a narrow advantage.

Bosnia tried to respond after the restart and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but the Americans remained dangerous on the counter. The match changed again in the second half when Balogun was shown a red card after a VAR review, leaving the United States with ten men.

Despite the numerical advantage, Bosnia could not find a way through. Malik Tillman then doubled the US lead in the closing stages with a superb free kick, effectively sealing the result and sending the home crowd into celebration.

The victory sends the United States into the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium. Bosnia and Herzegovina exit the tournament after a memorable run that united fans at home and across the diaspora.

Although the defeat will hurt, Bosnia leave the World Cup with pride after reaching the knockout stage and showing resilience against one of the host nations.
