USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes most-watched English-language football broadcast in history

The FIFA World Cup match between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, played on Wednesday evening, became the most-watched English-language football television broadcast in history, American media reported.

According to FOX Sports, the match attracted an average audience of more than 24.4 million viewers, while peak viewership reached 31.8 million.

The United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in Santa Clara, California, advancing to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup and securing its first knockout-stage victory since 2002.

The match surpassed the previous record held by the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final, which drew an English-language television audience of 22.3 million viewers.

For comparison, the most-watched Super Bowl in history was broadcast in 2025, when an average of 127.7 million viewers watched the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs across FOX, FOX Deportes, Telemundo and the streaming platform Tubi. Peak viewership was recorded during the second quarter, when 137.7 million viewers were watching.

The largest overall television audience of this year's FIFA World Cup across all available broadcasts in the United States currently belongs to the Mexico–Ecuador match, which was watched by 29.3 million viewers.
