The situation in the Bihac area, in the north-west of Bosnia, is critical as the rain has been falling non stop in the region all night threatening the entire Una-Sana Canton with floods.

The most difficult situation is in the town of Kulen Vakuf.

“The most difficult situation in the Bihac area is in the local community of Kulen Vakuf, the water level of the Una River was 389 cm in December and now it is only 10 cm lower,” said Muhamed Pecenkovic from the cantonal Civil Protection Administration.

The water level is also rising downstream in the city itself, but also in the Ripac and Pokoj villages.

In one part of the local community, road communication for pedestrians has been interrupted, and the movement of vehicles has been difficult. In the wider area of the city, cottages and houses along the river are threatened, and water entered auxiliary buildings yesterday.

During the night, sandbags were filled and delivered to citizens who needed them to protect themselves from water.

“Sandbags were delivered upon request to several local communities. Local community Srbljani built an embankment with the help of the Civil Protection unit in the Kostela settlement on the M14 highway. In the settlement of Klisa, an intervention was carried out to remove the landslide and level the macadam road”, the Bihac City Administration said.
