Wildfires raging across Herzegovina region

A total of 12 wildfires were recorded across the southern Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) over the past 24 hours, with firefighters tackling blazes involving grass, low vegetation, forest, waste and rubbish.

The largest number of interventions was reported in the Capljina area, where firefighters responded to seven fires in Dretelj, Visici, Trebizat, Gabela, Sjekose and Struge. The longest operation lasted from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Dretelj–Grahovo area, where grass and low vegetation were on fire, according to the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Civil Protection Operations Centre.
Three fires were reported in the Mostar area, in Blagaj, Pijesci and Rastani. One fire each was also recorded in Dobro Selo near Citluk, where a pine forest, grass and low vegetation burned, and in Rabrani near Neum.
Firefighters also carried out three technical interventions. In Capljina, they removed a fallen tree from a road in Trebizat and inspected the fire site in Dretelj, while in Neum they responded to a traffic accident.
