EC sends follow-up questions to Bosnia's institutions

The European Commission (EC) sent the follow-up questions to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday to clarify the ambiguities from the Questionnaire that the country answered in February this year.

Bosnia's Directorate for European Integration said that the follow-up questions compose 20 percent of the Questionnaire, which Bosnia received on December 2016 and answered in February 2018.

Most of the questions Bosnia's institutions received on Wednesday refer to political criteria, while the rest concerns the economy, social policy, employment, transportation policy, and education and culture.

Bosnia and Herzegovina formally applied for the EU membership in February 2016 and was to provide the answers to the 3,242 questions of the EC's Questionnaire within six months. However, it took the country a year to complete the process, because of deep political and ethnic divisions.

In February this year, Bosnia's senior officials handed over the answers to the Questionnaire to the EC President Jean-Claude Juncker and the country is now expecting the Commission's opinion to its EU membership application.

The purpose of the follow-up questions is to clarify what has been provided by Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities in the answers received by the European Commission on 28 February 2018 as well as to request missing information, reads the introductory part of the document the authorities received this week.

The Commission confirmed earlier for N1 that Bosnia would receive a set of 500 follow-up questions as a part of the regular procedure that all countries went through in this process.
