Arrest of Sarajevo police officers over sexual abuse sparks urgent government response

According to the official statement, one officer is suspected of the criminal offence of sexual harassment, while the other faces charges of sexual abuse of a child over the age of 15. The ministry emphasised that these are two separate cases, and that both officers were detained immediately after the allegations surfaced.

Police acted following a report made late last night by an official from a social care institution in Sarajevo Canton. Both suspects will undergo formal questioning and criminal processing today, MUP KS said.

In response to the arrests, Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk convened an urgent session of the Cantonal Government.

“I have called an emergency meeting of the Sarajevo Canton Government following the arrest of two police officers accused of sexual harassment and child abuse. We will remain in continuous session, an investigation is being launched, and the public will be informed later today about further actions,” the prime minister stated.

The government has not released additional details regarding the cases, which have sparked strong public concern over accountability within law enforcement institutions.
