Bosnia and Herzegovina's Minister of Security, Nenad Nesic, has announced his irrevocable resignation, citing moral reasons. The announcement was made late Tuesday on Nesic's official Facebook page.

“Due to recent events, I am submitting my irrevocable resignation as Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina for moral reasons. The resignation will be officially delivered to the relevant institutions tomorrow through my legal representatives,” Nesic wrote.

He also stated that further details and the reasons behind his decision would be disclosed once the resignation is formally submitted. Nesic concluded his post by reaffirming his love for the Republika Srpska (RS) entity and his commitment to continue fighting for it.

Attorney confirms resignation submission

Nesic’s attorney, Nerja Suljic, confirmed that the resignation had been officially submitted to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the resignation letter, Nesic emphasized that his decision was motivated by a desire to “ease the functioning of the Council of Ministers” in appointing a new minister.

“I am resigning due to moral reasons, but I do not admit to committing the criminal offence for which I am currently in custody. I will prove my innocence in court. I thank all members of the Council of Ministers and my colleagues at the Ministry of Security,” Nesic wrote in the letter, which was shared by Suljic.

Parliamentary dismissal and legal proceedings

The resignation comes after the House of Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Parliamentary Assembly voted the previous evening to remove Nesic from office.
Meanwhile, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has extended Nesic's custody for an additional two months, along with two other suspects in the ongoing investigation. Details regarding the allegations against Nesic remain unclear, but he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Nesic's departure marks a significant development in Bosnia and Herzegovina's political landscape, as the country grapples with the break-up of the state-level coalition.
