Christian Schmidt, High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is set to testify at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg in the case of "Slaven Kovacevic." This comes after Bosnia and Herzegovina's Council of Ministers appealed a previous ruling in favor of Kovacevic, who sued over violations of his voting rights as a member of the "Others" category.
Kovacevic criticized Schmidt, calling him a “liar and manipulator,” claiming Schmidt’s involvement is self-initiated through a British law firm. Kovacevic argues Schmidt is protecting political systems tied to ethnic policies in Bosnia.
The Office of the High Representative (OHR) clarified that Schmidt will act as an *amicus curiae* (friend of the court), a role past high representatives have held. However, Refik Lendo, Vice President of the Federation of BiH, opposed Schmidt's participation, saying it could harm Bosnia’s political system and democracy.
Attorney Goran Bubic, representing Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, saw Schmidt’s testimony as a precedent for him to testify in Dodik’s trial, where the high representative's decisions are being challenged.
