BiH Presidency member, Milorad Dodik, strongly criticised the US Ambassador, Michael Murphy, saying that it is unacceptable for any ambassador to “lecture” political leaders in the country and that it is not in line with good diplomatic behaviour.

Dodik’s comments came after Murphy criticised him in his blog, writing that the Bosnian Serb political leader has “chosen to assail the Dayton order and undermine state institutions” instead of focusing on the real issues of concern to citizens such as corruption, lack of employment opportunities, and inflation.

Dodik argued that it is a shame that Ambassador Murphy’s actions show that he is “a party to the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and not a representative of the guarantor state of the Dayton Peace Agreement.”

“The populism shown by the American ambassador with the narrative of the fight against crime and corruption is an attempt to conceal that it was the international community that created solutions contrary to the Dayton Agreement, which did not provide a solution to corruption and crime but became a source of both corruption and crime. So, Ambassador Murphy is rebelling and fighting against what his predecessors created in violation of the international agreement,” Dodik said.

He also argued that the US clearly favours opposition parties in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, specifically the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) and the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP).

“I would tell him at the end that we respect the USA, its strength and power, but that above all we respect ourselves and the personal integrity and integrity of Republika Srpska, as it was agreed in Dayton. And the ambassador attacked both with his text. I hope that he will quickly return to the framework of good diplomatic behaviour, understand that he is not a host here but a guest,” he said.
