According to Bosnia’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, Zlatko Lagumdzija, BiH’s political leaders first heard about the plan of the High Representative of the international community in the country to impose electoral reform from the media.

N1 broke the story last week that, according to diplomatic sources, High Representative Christian Schmidt plans to use his ‘Bonn Powers’ to impose measures to secure the re-functioning of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) by August 1. The draft decision contains changes to the Election Law.

Lagumdzija, who joined the massive protest in front of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) on Monday, urged Schmidt refrain from imposing any laws concerning the election process except those that would prevent electoral fraud.

“I talked to half the people who run this country and it shocked me that they don't even know what's going on. Their job is not to be at protests, they should talk to people around the world,” Lagumdzija said, adding that those paid to lead this country “must be engaged in serious statesmanship” as opposed to building up their election campaign through protests.

“They found out from your media that this is being prepared,” Lagumdzija said.

He said that the OHR must not pass non-European and non-democratic laws in Bosnia which would only serve to “complete what was not done in the period from 1992 to 1995.”
