Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world are celebrating the great Eid al-Adha, the holiday of sacrifice, or the Hajj Bayram. The central Eid ceremony of the Islamic Community in BiH was held in the Gazi Husrev Bey Mosque in Sarajevo, where the Eid sermon was delivered by Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic.
After the Eid prayer and the Eid sermon, the faithful start sacrificing the sacrificial meat, and the sacrificial meat is distributed to those in need, neighbours, and family.
In his Eid sermon, Kavazovic recalled that we all must sacrifice something for the personal well-being of our community, warning that divisions will only worsen the situation our country and society are in.
“In our time, we all have to sacrifice something, like Ibrahim, peace be upon him, in order to establish the values on which we will base our life and the life of our community. The divisions and isolation we are witnessing now will not save us. They only increase the selfishness that further open the chasms of fear and bigotry among us. We have to get out of the vicious circle of our delusions that others are better than us,” Kavazovic said in his sermon.
He emphasized that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, had to “sacrifice his own family, leave behind his family, house and relatives, in order to find a great family of people that we all refer to today as Muslims, Christians, and Jews.”
He said that “We all have to move in the same direction.”
In the sermon, he called for today's blessed day to remind us of the journey of Ibrahim's son Ismail, peace be upon him, pointing out that the story about him carries many messages for all of us.
“The life of every living being is a gift, a miracle of God's creation. The life that is born is a value in itself. Man himself is this same value, not what he owns. We must save ourselves, and this wonderful world around us, from our greed that knows no bounds,” the Grand Mufti said.
At the end of the sermon, the head of the Islamic Community in BiH congratulated the Eid al-Adha to the faithful in the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and the diaspora.
“No matter where you live, live in peace and friendship, with your relatives, neighbours and friends. Don't let differences keep you from our primary need to be human. I invite all people to work together to raise our families, raise our children and build our community. Let's ask the Lord to lighten our burdens of this world, connect our hearts and be merciful to us on Judgment Day. Bajram Serif Mubarek Olsun,” Gradn Mufti Kavazovic said.
