Despite strong objections from the Bosnian Serb member in BiH’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, the newly appointed ambassador of Germany in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thomas Fitschen, handed over copies of letters of credence on Wednesday.
Dodik voted against granting the newly appointed German Ambassador to BiH the agrément at a Presidency session recently, but the other two Presidency members, Bosniak Sefik Dzaferovic and Bosnian Croat Zeljko Komsic, voted in favour.

This prompted Dodik to organised a special session of the National Assembly of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, where he is the leader of the ruling party, in order to secure support for a veto on the matter, arguing that granting the Agrément would damage the vital interests of the entity.
RS lawmakers, however, did not support it, so the Presidency decision from September 2 is in force.
The new German Ambassador, Thomas Fitschen, handed his letters of credence to the head of the Department for Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirsad Besic, on Wednesday.
