Local elections are underway in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and many cars with license plates from neighbouring Serbia were noticed in the area of Srebrenica, Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported.
Local elections in the municipality of Srebrenica will be held at 24 polling stations, and one polling station will be open for voting on unconfirmed ballots.
In Skelani, the number of ballots did not match the number of voters.
“All polling stations in the area of the municipality of Srebrenica are open at seven o'clock. At two polling stations, there was a delay, and in Skelani at one polling station there was a delay because the number of ballots and the number of voters did not match, so an additional count is underway,” Zekerijah Hadzic, a member of the Srebrenica Municipal Election Commission, told Radio Free Europe.
A pilot project of voter authentication, which includes checking personal documents and fingerprints, will be implemented at three polling stations in Srebrenica.
“This process will take place in primary schools in Srebrenica, Potocari and Skelani, where there are a larger number of voters,” Ljiljana Stevanovic, president of the Municipal Election Commission in the municipality of Srebrenica, told RSE.
At this year's municipal elections, a large number of people from Serbia again came to Srebrenica to vote. Cars with license plates of Belgrade, Sabac, Uzice, Zrenjanin, Bajina Basta, Loznica and other cities were noticed already in the early morning hours.
“Those people live in Serbia and for some reason, they got ID cards, so they can vote here. Few of them live in Srebrenica, and in order to vote, they would have to live here several months before the elections”, one local told RFE.
“And I doubt that they have anything to do with Srebrenica, they don't have property here, they don't have a housing contract, they don't pay electricity or taxes, and I really don't know on what basis they got an ID. They only show up here on election day and go back. Practically, the people of Serbia decide on the election of the mayor,” he alleged.
