NUNS condemns Informer over dangerous targeting of journalist Selma Kolasinac and N1 BiH television

The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) has strongly condemned an article published by the Informer tabloid targeting Selma Kolasinac, a journalist for the "Mahala" podcast, alongside television station N1 BiH. The association warns that such reporting does not constitute journalism, but represents a dangerous targeting of a professional journalist and the continuation of an ongoing smear campaign against the N1 television network.

The text published by Informer claims that "the tycoon-owned N1 television and one of the main stars and leaders of street blockades" have joined forces in an alleged "attack on Serbia" with the ultimate objective "to prove that Serbs are genocidal." Informer specifically labels journalist Selma Kolasinac as "one of the organizers of blockades from Novi Pazar," asserting that she traveled to Srebrenica under the direction of "anti-Serbian media such as the tycoon-owned N1."
NUNS emphasizes that her participation in an educational program at the Srebrenica Memorial Center was presented by Informer as part of a "shameful performance" and an "attack on Serbia," in an attempt to discredit Kolasinac and tag her as an enemy of the state.
The association notes it is highly dangerous when female journalists and young people participating in educational programs focused on war crimes and transitional justice are publicly linked to alleged "anti-Serbian" activities. Such qualifications fail to inform the public, serving instead to incite hostility, exert pressure, and potentially jeopardize the personal safety of the targeted individual.
NUNS reiterates that media outlets maintain the full right to report on Srebrenica, transitional justice, war crimes, and institutional accountability. Furthermore, journalists, students, and citizens have the right to take part in educational and public programs without fear of being labeled "enemies of Serbia."
The association notes that Informer’s reporting style represents a continuation of established practices where dissenters, independent media, journalists, students, and activists are portrayed as traitors, foreign mercenaries, or actors in alleged anti-state campaigns.
Consequently, NUNS has called upon the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia to publicly react to these media write-ups that mark media professionals as enemies of the state and expose them to security risks.
