Due to dissatisfaction with the functioning and operations of the Croat National Assembly (HNS) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, more than 170 elected representatives will abstain from participating in the 12th session of this political body, scheduled for this weekend, according to a joint statement issued by HDZ 1990, HNP, HDS, and HSS.
The four parties have raised concerns over the Assembly's failure to uphold adopted declarations, implement resolutions and strategies, and address key issues, including the long-overdue amendment of the Election Law to ensure “legitimate representation”. They further criticize the transformation of the HNS into a platform that serves to maintain the monopoly of the HDZ BiH.
Additionally, they highlight the lack of progress on other strategic priorities for the Croat community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the absence of a demographic strategy to curb the ongoing emigration of Croats.
The signatory parties also express dissatisfaction with what they describe as the unlawful usurpation of the position of President of the Main Board of the Croat National Assembly.
“In light of these concerns, there is an urgent need to redefine decision-making processes and the overall functioning of the HNS. Given the political landscape in Bosnia and Herzegovina—marked by both separatist and unitarist tendencies—as well as the broader geopolitical context, we believe that open and urgent discussions must take place with mutual respect and a responsible approach towards our people,” the statement concludes.
The joint declaration was signed by HDZ 1990 President Ilija Cvitanovic, HNP President Ivan Vukadin, HDS President Ivo Tadic, and HSS President Mario Karamatic.
The 12th session of the Croat People's Assembly in Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to take place on Saturday, February 8.
