A dramatic incident unfolded in central Tuzla on Thursday when a police officer from the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Interior (MoI) fell into the Jala River during an ongoing criminal pursuit. The officer, identified by initials M.A., was rescued from the water and rushed to the University Clinical Center (UKC) in Tuzla for emergency treatment, N1 learned.
UKC Tuzla spokesperson Ersija Asceric-Mujedinovic confirmed to N1 that the injured officer was admitted to the surgical clinic's emergency department. “The patient is conscious, communicative, and currently undergoing evaluation,” she stated, noting that the extent of his injuries remains undetermined.
Authorities from MoI TK told N1 that police operations are still active and that an official statement will follow once details are verified, as speculation about the incident circulates. Eyewitnesses reported that fellow officers immediately attempted to rescue M.A. from the strong currents but initially struggled due to the river's rapid flow before successfully extracting him.
The officer received prompt medical attention at UKC Tuzla, where he remains under observation. The police chase that precipitated the accident continues, with officials promising further updates.
