Russian UN envoy walks out of Security Council during Schmidt’s address

"We do not recognise Christian Schmidt as the High Representative," the Russian ambassador stated. "The Security Council has never confirmed his appointment. For 25 years, the practice has been that the High Representative is endorsed by this Council. Without that mandate, the position remains vacant."

Nebenzya insisted that Schmidt has no right to speak on behalf of the international community. "He may be here in a private capacity, and that is how we view him today. I have no intention of spending time listening to his biased views," he added before leaving the chamber.
