The European Film Academy has included Sarajevo's Bascarsija on its list of "Treasures of European Film Culture." The list was updated on April 28, adding seven new locations, including Bascarsija.

The list also features Scheibler Lofts at Księży Młyn in Łódź (Poland), the picturesque port of Corricella on the Italian island of Procida, and distinctive structures like the beautiful Palatsi cinema hall in Tampere (Finland), the Koningshaven Bridge in Rotterdam, and the Swiss steamship “Schiller,” one of the boats that crosses Lake Lucerne. Two historic film studios joined the list: Gamla Filmstaden in Sweden and Filmparken in Jar in Norway.

The “Treasures of European Film Culture” list is part of the European Film Academy's expanded efforts in film heritage, which began in 2022. Since then, the new Department for European Film Heritage has established a network of national film academies, cinémathèques, and film archives dedicated to supporting and promoting the continent's classic films.

Sarajevo's Bascarsija was added to the list following an initiative by the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
