The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, visited the Srebrenica Memorial Center in Potocari, where he paid tribute to the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica ahead of tomorrow's collective funeral and burial.
“29 years since the genocide, we can finally pay tribute to those who lost their lives, and every year new names appear on the list of those who perished,” Schmidt told N1, adding:
“If anyone has any doubts about what the future should be, I'm especially telling this to certain individuals from Banja Luka, I would invite them to come here, be quiet and let us grieve together and honour the victims. Let's repeat ‘never again’ as a joint commitment towards a more peaceful future,” Schmidt said.
So far, 6,751 victims of genocide have been buried in the Srebrenica – Potocari Memorial Center, while 250 victims were buried in local cemeteries by the decision of the surviving family members.
Among the white tombstones are 14 newly dug graves where the remains of the newly identified genocide victims will be placed on July 11. They will be buried next to their fathers, brothers, uncles…
