Members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Border Police unit in Gradiska arrested a Turkish citizen, on Thursday, for attempting to smuggle 11 Syrian nationals into the country.

The smuggling attempt was uncovered during a border surveillance operation in the Gradiska area when a Mercedes with BiH license plates was stopped for inspection. The vehicle was being driven by the Turkish national, according to an official statement from the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Due to reasonable suspicion of involvement in the crime of human smuggling, the BiH Prosecutor's Office was immediately informed. Acting on the prosecutor's order, the driver was arrested and interrogated as a suspect. A report on the criminal offence will be submitted to the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
