The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SSS BiH) has reported that the trade union consumer basket for December 2024 is valued at 3,114.95 Bosnian marks (€1,590).
According to data from the Federation of BiH Statistics Institute, the average salary in the Federation of BiH for October 2024 was 1,415 marks (€723), while the minimum wage, as determined by the FBiH Government, stands at 619 marks (€317).
This indicates that the average salary covers 45.43 percent of the consumer basket, while the minimum wage covers just 19.87 percent.
The calculation of the consumer basket considers the basic living expenses for a four-member family, consisting of two adults and two children—one in high school and the other in elementary school.
The consumer basket is divided into the following categories:
- Food: 43.93%
- Housing and utilities: 14.20%
- Hygiene and health: 9.19%
- Education and culture: 10.27%
- Clothing and footwear: 11.56%
- Transportation: 4.43%
- Household maintenance: 6.42%
The food category, which constitutes the largest share, was calculated using prices for 86 items from three major shopping centres. Hygiene and health costs are based on 10 essential items, while housing and utility expenses were calculated for six items.
