Throughout the next two months, locals and tourists will have the opportunity to experience the winter in Sarajevo through the “Old Town Fairytale” programme which, among other things, will include free ice skating and vendors offering various goods in the Old Town municipality.
“This is the first time that we have a technologically most modern ice rink in the Old Town area and, for the next two months, Sarajevo’s citizens and all visitors will be able to use it for free,” said Adnan Koro, the head of the ‘Protectors of Tradition’ (Cuvari tradicije) association, which is organising the programme with support from the Old Town administration and the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Association.
The ice rink is set up at the Liberation – Alija Izetbegovic Square. It is surrounded by small cribs where visitors can buy food and drinks, souvenirs, health products, among other things.
On Weekends, children will have the opportunity to meet with popular local sports stars, actors, and various mascots.
The head of the Tourist Association of the Sarajevo Canton, Midhat Hubijar, said that the core of the Old Town is, according to all statistical data, the part of Sarajevo most tourists visit annually.
The “Old Town Fairytale” was opened on Wednesday by Old Town Mayor Ibrahim Hadzibajric.
The programme will also be taking place during the opening of the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, which will take place in Sarajevo and Eastern Sarajevo in February.
