Montenegrin-Bosnian basketball coach Bogdan Tanjevic in FIBA's Hall of Fame

Bogdan Tanjevic, a famous Montenegrin-Bosnian basketball coach was accepted into International Basketball Federation's (FIBA) Hall of Fame - Class 2019, Bosnia's Basketball Association said on Friday.

Tanjevic's greatest success with a Bosnian team was with Sarajevo's ‘Bosna’ basketball team after winning the European Championship of 1979 against Pallacanestro Varese, then known as Emerson, in the Grenoble, France, finals.

Apart from this, Tanjevic won the 1999 European Championship with the national team of Italy, along with 13 other trophies.

He also coached the former Yugoslavia's Junior team who won gold in the European Championship of 1974 and Seniors in 1981, who won silver that year.

Bogdan Tanjevic is a Montenegrin-Bosnian professional basketball coach and former player. He was born on February 13, 1947, in Pljevlja, Montenegro and at the age of four, he moved to Sarajevo, Bosnia due to his Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) officer father Strahinja Tanjevic who was reassigned there.

After moving to Belgrade in 1965 to study world literature, he began playing basketball for ‘Beograd’ basketball team. He ended his playing career in 1971,  and at the age of 24, he took the position of head coach in ‘Bosna’ basketball team who played in the second division cup.

Tanjevic is the third Bosnian basketball celebrity to enter FIBA's Hall of Fame after Bosnia's best women's basketball player Razija Mujanovic was accepted in 2017, and men's Mirza Delibasic in 2007.
