European Commission has warned the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), Bosnia's top judicial authority, it might discontinue the financial assistance for the judicial reform in the country, which is being implemented through this institution, the Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported.

Because of the poor results that have been achieved so far in the reform, especially in the segment of integrity, the Commission is reconsidering its support to the judiciary, the Commission spokesperson's office told RFE.

Reportedly, a letter that has been sent to Milan Tegeltija, the Council's President, warned about a long delay in the judicial reform and said that “the state of the judicial system is a reason for concern.”

The Commission, according to RFE, put a special accent on its earlier note from February 11, 2020, which urged the Council to take urgent steps towards the establishment of a special unit for integrity within the HJPC Secretariat, a body that is supposed to deal with the control of the integrity of judicial officials.
