AFET delegation in BiH: EU must support enforcement of arrest warrant

Members of the Joint Collegium of both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina met on Monday with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). The main messages from the AFET delegation were that the EU should support the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its institutions, and the rule of law.
“My main message is that you need to support the rule of law and the state, and protect the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are currently facing a security crisis due to unconstitutional actions committed by President Dodik (Milorad Dodik, President of the BiH entity Republika Srpska), and I believe the EU must stand with the state institutions and the rule of law and ensure that the arrest warrant is enforced with EU support,” said Tineke Strik, a member of AFET, in a statement to N1.
Kemal Ademovic from the Joint Collegium of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly emphasized the need to support legally elected and official bodies, as well as judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and not to give space to those attempting secession or attacking the constitutional order of the country.
“The EU members should clearly say that laws must be respected, just like in their own countries – that above all. Secondly, they should provide security support to Bosnia and Herzegovina. That’s where the EUFOR ALTHEA mission comes in – to do its part and help Bosnian agencies protect the eastern border, through which many migrants are passing on their way from BiH to Europe. That border is porous,” Ademovic told N1.
He pointed out that the EU has never been completely united, but that moves by Germany and Austria, which have imposed sanctions (on Dodik, Nenad Stevandic, and Radovan Viskovic), show that things are starting to change.
