Bosnia’s police agencies are looking for US citizen Robert Rundo, the founder of a far-right organization who is facing charges of violence in his country, the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs told the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH).
BIRN reported that Rundo, one of the founders of the Rise Above Movement, came to Bosnia after he was expelled from Serbia. He reportedly stands accused of “rioting and conspiracy by recruiting and training people for violence and taking part in violence in 2017 in Berkeley, San Bernardino and Huntington Beach in California” and the FBI said that he was caught on video assaulting a police officer, as well as people who were protesting against Donald Trump.
According to the investigative web portal Bellingcat, Rundo spent time in several European countries throughout 2020 and recorded a series of videos in Serbia that promote far-right messages.
According to BIRN, Rundo entered Bosnia in February 2021.
Svevlad Hoffman, an adviser to the Bosnian Border Police director, told BIRN that Border Police was not aware at the time that Rundo represented a threat to national security because it was not informed of this by Bosnia’s Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA).
According to the local Istraga.ba investigative web portal, Rundo was identified in the eastern town of Zvornik by locals in February.
The Rise Above Movement saw three of its members imprisoned for violence at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017, Bellingcat reported, adding that two of them are still incarcerated.
