Milorad Dodik, the President of Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity (RS) flew to Russia on Tuesday to attend a security forum in Saint Petersburg, and during his talks with Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Dodik reiterated his desire to strengthen ties with the Vladimir Putin regime.

The forum was organised by the Russian government, and apart from Dodik, Nenad Nešić, who currently serves as the security minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is also attending the event.

According to the RS broadcaster RTRS, upon his arrival in Russia, Dodik was received by Patrushev, who is perceived as a close aide to Putin.

“Your excellent relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin pave the way for excellent relations between the Republika Srpska, the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Russian Federation”, Patrushev said, adding that he is aware of the Serb entity's exposure to mounting pressure due to its ties with Putin.

Dodik said the Republika Srpska remained committed to maintaining good relations with Russia despite the pressure.

Dodik, who keeps threatening the secession of the Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been placed under sanctions by the United States and the United Kingdom.

Two months ago, Dodik met with Russian President Putin in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, where they announced the strengthening of their cooperation and friendly relations.

Dodik then arrived in Russia after visiting Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where he met with President Alexander Lukashenko.

“Republika Srpska is our friend, thank you for supporting Russia,” Putin told Dodik in Kazan.
