EU to lift ban on poultry imports from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The European Union will lift its ban on imports of poultry meat from Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 30, officials have confirmed, in a move expected to benefit one of the country’s few livestock sectors with a trade surplus.

Negoslav Lukic, assistant minister for veterinary affairs in Republika Srpska, said the ban had been in place for four months after avian influenza was detected in the Bosansko Petrovo Selo area in February.
“The lifting of the poultry meat export ban is of great importance for domestic producers,” Lukic said.
Monitoring zones introduced after the outbreak were lifted in early April, after which Bosnia and Herzegovina expected to regain its export status for the EU market.
Poultry farming is the only branch of livestock production in Bosnia and Herzegovina that records a surplus in foreign trade.
