Irfan Ajanovic, one of the founders of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), former Vice President of the Federal Assembly of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), and long-time parliamentarian, passed away in Sarajevo at the age of 82.
Born in 1942 in Zepce, Ajanovic completed high school in Zavidovici and later graduated from the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. He applied his academic background to a prominent political career.
Ajanovic served as the last Vice President of the Council of Republics and Provinces of the SFRY Assembly. He was a representative in the Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina following the first democratic elections from 1990 to 1996 and subsequently served six consecutive terms from 1996 to 2014 in the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Parliament.
Before the outbreak of the Bosnian War, Ajanovic was involved in poetry and music, with his poems published in various journals and performed by well-known folk music artists.
In the early 1990s, Ajanovic joined the SDA and participated in the party's Founding Assembly. In February 1991, he was elected Vice President of the Federal Parliament of the SFRY Assembly. During the war years, he was a member of the Republic Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ajanovic was captured on June 30, 1993, along with members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zepce. He was subsequently transferred to camps in Teslic, Banja Luka, Bosanski Novi, and Doboj, where he spent a total of 907 days.
After the war, Ajanovic returned to politics, actively working in the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliament until 2014.
