The pandemic caused by the coronavirus could have been stopped had the world responded to it better, the research conducted by the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response concluded.
“The Independent Panel found weak links at every point in the chain of readiness and response. The preparation was inconsistent and insufficiently funded. The warning system was too slow – and too mild. The World Health Organization (WHO) did not have enough strength. The response exacerbated inequalities. There is no global political leadership.” This is a summary of the conclusions reached by the Panel. One of the scientists who worked on this report is Professor Michel Kazatchkine from the prestigious Université René Descartes in Paris.
In an interview with N1, Kazatchkine clarified the conclusions and stated the Panel’s recommendations for possible future pandemics.
